  1. Time for Kids

The nonfiction weekly news magazine is directed at children and the TIME magazine is its parent. The articles that are written for Time for Kids reporters, but each year they open a talent search for children under the age of 13. The contestants are required to write a news story about a specific school or a community event that is taking place. The entry must be complete with a headline and also interview subjects.

  1. Kids are Authors

This is a unique kids writing competition as it focuses on kids working together to create an illustrated work in the form of a children’s book. The book can be wither fiction or nonfiction and needs to be created by a group of three or more students. The book will need to be formatted according to the guidelines and be at least between 21 and 29 pages long. The winning book is published by Scholastic, which is then sold at Scholastic Book Fairs.

  1. Stone Soup Magazine

This is technically not a writing competition as the Stone Soup Magazine publishes stories, poetry and book reviews that are 2500 words or less, written by kids that are 13 or younger. Whilst not all submissions are published, kids are able to write and submit more than once. This is a great way to get kids writing as they may get recognition and have their piece published in the magazine.

  1. Creative Kids Magazine

The Creative Kids Magazine is a publication that is written by kids for kids. Children are able to make submissions on various topics whether it is stories, songs, editorials or plays. The submissions need to be made by kids between the ages of 8 and 16.

Kids writing competitions or getting kids to write pieces for magazines will help them to build their writing confidence and get their work exposed.
